Board restores Teach For America partnership; district to pay $8,000 per core member

Presenters said Bridgeport’s incoming 2026 core would include 39 members with an emphasis on local recruitment and retention; the fee discussed was $8,000 per core member per year to cover Teach for America’s recruitment, training and coaching costs. Dr. Avery said core members will be integrated into district mentoring and new-teacher training so they receive district onboarding and supports.
The board voted to approve the Teach for America agreement. Administrators said core members will be hired following district selection and hiring processes and that the district will provide mentorship and induction supports.
