The Steele County board voted unanimously Oct. 14 to appoint Sadie as county treasurer during a special meeting limited to that personnel action. The motion to appoint was moved by Chris and seconded by Richard; a roll-call vote recorded Brown, Brandon Oxman, Chris and Richard as voting yes, and the Chair announced the motion carried.
Richard, who introduced Sadie’s candidacy, said Sadie “has a degree in finance” and noted her bank-teller experience and participation in training for the county’s new accounting platform. He said Sadie had been helping “with counting money and depositing checks” and told the board she is willing to accept the position. Richard proposed starting her pay at the grade and level the board had already identified — “48 and change” — effective immediately and continuing through 2025 rather than waiting until Jan. 1.
Board members asked whether Sadie understood she would need to run for the elective office in the future; Richard confirmed she is a county resident and aware of that requirement. After the motion carried, the board recorded the vote and moved on to next steps.
The appointment takes effect immediately per the board’s action; the board did not specify a start date beyond the intent to begin her at the recommended salary now. The Chair closed the item after the vote and the board proceeded to address advertisement for the clerk/recorder vacancy.
