The Lake Pend Oreille School District board voted to approve up to $950,000 to create a Culinary Arts and Hospitality program at the CTEC facility. Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer told trustees the proposal is part of an Idaho Career Ready Systems grant and would occupy space vacated by the residential carpentry program.
"We're asking for permission to expend, up to 950,000 to create this culinary arts slash hospitality program," Dr. Becky Meyer said, explaining the funding source and timeline. Meyer and staff said the work would begin near the end of the calendar year and be ready for students by midyear of the next school year so the elective can be added to the second-semester master schedule.
Board members described strong student and community demand for hands-on CTE classes. A trustee who toured existing classes said the district's nutrition and career-technical classes already demonstrate strong enrollment and local employer interest.
The motion to approve a project budget not to exceed $950,000 passed on a voice vote. Administrators said E-rate was not referenced for this project and that school facilities funds and grant dollars will be used alongside the ICRS grant to complete the work.
