Commissioners approve assurance letter for federally funded remedial repairs at Cedar Creek Site 16

County staff briefed the court that the remedial repair for Cedar Creek Site 16 is funded with federal dollars and that about 90% of the site lies in neighboring Rockwall County, with only a small portion in Kaufman County.
"To do these projects with federal dollars, they require an assurance letter signed by the attorney saying that the easements are good and in place," Owen said. He told commissioners there is no direct cost to Kaufman County beyond executing the assurance. The court moved, seconded, and approved the assurance documentation by voice vote.
County staff said the role for Kaufman County in this federal project is limited to confirming easements and completing administrative steps; further on-the-ground work and funding oversight will be led by the federal program and Rockwall County where most of the site is located.
