During the city administrator’s report the administrator told the council the police department is facing significant staffing shortages following retirements and other vacancies. "We're now down nine positions in the police department," the administrator said, and added that filling those positions has been difficult because agencies statewide are competing for officers.
Councilors acknowledged the staffing shortfall and its implications for service levels. The administrator said the department continues to meet community needs despite the vacancies and asked the public to refer qualified candidates to the department’s recruitment process.
