The Karnes County Commissioners Court on May 13 read and adopted a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Mental Health Awareness Month. Camino Real staff and members of the Karnes County CERT team joined the court for the proclamation and a signing photo.
Doris of Camino Real read the proclamation, which stated in part that "recent events, including the tragic loss of a young adult member of our community, have reminded us of the urgent importance of mental health awareness, education, and accessible support for individuals of all ages." The proclamation called on residents to check in with loved ones, seek help when needed and participate in free community training offered by Camino Real.
Judge Hedke thanked Camino Real and highlighted challenges counties face when state funding or unfunded mandates arise, urging continued focus on mental-health resources in local schools and institutions.
