Sheriff presses NTBHA for clearer follow-up on county referrals

"I'm asking that you handle it ... I need you to respond back saying, hey. We've went out there and talked to them," the sheriff said, pressing NTBHA staff for simple acknowledgements rather than protected health details. The sheriff said the county frequently refers people but gets "hardly any reports back" and cannot verify whether clients received services.
Miss Karalucky acknowledged reporting constraints and HIPAA-related privacy limits while agreeing NTBHA should improve acknowledgement practices and communication with county partners. NTBHA staff said they would take the issue to their attorneys and work on communication protocols; the court asked for a follow-up meeting within weeks and for language in a new MOU to document expectations about acknowledgements and reporting.
Why it matters: County criminal-justice and public-safety partners rely on confirmation that referrals result in contacts or services; commissioners said they are willing to receive non-clinical confirmations (for example, that outreach occurred) while respecting privacy laws.
The court did not take immediate action beyond requesting NTBHA return with proposed documentation and an MOU update.
