The Karnes County Commissioners Court authorized staff May 13 to negotiate a two-year extension of the county bank depository contract with Falls City National Bank.
County finance staff said the existing contract (signed August 2023) included an initial term and options for negotiation after two years; the court was told the county has been satisfied with the bank's services, online capabilities and ACH limits. County staff noted negotiating would likely focus on interest rates for certificates of deposit and technical limits for large ACH payments.
Commissioner Giesler moved to approve negotiating the extension and the motion was seconded and carried by the court. Judge Wade J. Hedke and other commissioners emphasized the benefit of local banking relationships and the operational simplicity of staying with a known provider, but also discussed past attempts to solicit local bids and the practical difficulties smaller banks face handling large public deposits.
No formal bid was directed while the court pursues negotiations; the alternate agenda item to go out for bids was noted but no action was taken on it at this meeting.
