Commissioners accept Harlingen TIRZ reports covering three reinvestment zones

City staff and Harlingen City Manager Gabe Gonzalez presented the 2025 Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) reports for Harlingen TIRZ 1, 2 and 3 at the May 19 Cameron County Commissioners Court meeting.
Staff traced the TIRZ history (approved in 2012) and summarized current fund balances: TIRZ 1 at a little over $1 million, TIRZ 2 a little over $4.1 million, and TIRZ 3 at over $1 million. Staff said the county’s cumulative participation to date on the three zones is about $1.2 million and described maximum city contributions and total project costs for each zone; TIRZ 1 included a past $1.4 million reimbursement to Cameron County for Grimes Road. The city manager offered to provide copies of the full report to county staff.
Commissioner Garza moved to accept the reports and Commissioner Lopez seconded; the court accepted the reports by voice vote. No county financial appropriation was made at the meeting; the acceptance was a formal acknowledgment of the annual TIRZ reports.
