Commissioners approve new patrol vehicles, switch unmarked to marked unit

The Cameron County Commissioners Court voted May 5 to authorize the purchase of new patrol units and related equipment, approving procurement through cooperative contracts. The court approved buying a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV and a Ford F-150 crew cab patrol unit, patrol equipment, and mobile radios, and carried a change to make one previously unmarked unit a marked Ford F-150.
A commissioner urged that law-enforcement vehicles be visibly marked so residents recognize officers in the community; in the meeting record the commissioner said, “We don't need any more ice looking units out there,” prompting the court to change the specification to a marked unit. The judge read the motion and recorded that the motion by Commissioner Gadison and second by Commissioner Reese carried. The action authorizes purchases using approved budget equipment lists and cooperative-buy contracts and directs staff to proceed with procurement and equipment outfitting.
