Sean Draper, the district social-emotional learning (SEL) coordinator, presented behavioral-health data and the district’s MTSS framework. He reviewed ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) research, national and Oregon indicators (noting Oregon ranks low on youth mental-health resources), and local discipline metrics: middle-school referrals dropped from 219 last year to 104 so far this year, while middle-school suspensions were reported at 37.
Draper discussed the Rise Room and Echo interventions (each with thousands of entries last year) and DESSA snapshots showing roughly 74% of students in the typical/strength range at the school-year start. He said interventions and tiered supports contributed to improvement last year, and called for continued focus on early intervention and staffing to meet student mental-health needs.
