District safety upgrades: new AEDs, lock blocks and SaferWatch app planned

Brent Morell presented a multi-part school safety update that included Vector online training for staff, an ODE safety walk-through that prompted updated fire maps, a proposed visitor-badge system, line-of-sight stickers for classroom windows and low-cost 'lock blocks' for interior doors. He said the district added three AEDs — bringing the total to six — and that roughly 28 staff attended an on-site CPR class on Oct. 11.
Morell also previewed SaferWatch, a geofenced mobile panic button that would alert dispatch in an emergency, and noted the district scheduled a lockdown drill for the next day. Board members asked about signage, handicap parking access at athletic events and how safety materials would be distributed to staff and substitutes.
