Florence County Council authorized a $500 Christmas bonus for county employees on Nov. 21. Staff said $100 of the bonus had already been budgeted in department lines and the additional $400 per employee will be funded from the general fund balance; staff estimated the incremental cost at approximately $400,000.
Council also approved reclassifications for two Public Works supervisory positions to better align pay and recruitment (area supervisor and drainage supervisor moved from grade 18 to grade 27). The sheriff’s office received authorization to reclassify a slot to major, create another major slot and add a contract internal affairs investigator; staff estimated the annual cost of those changes at $184,545, with approximately $107,651 applying to the current fiscal year. Staff said the sheriff would absorb costs in the current budget.
