Council approves multiple Gateway 76 zoning and land-use amendments
Summary
Council approved a series of zoning and future land-use changes for properties in the East Highway 76 Gateway Study and related areas (Ordinances 36–45 and several 2nd-reading map amendments), moving multiple parcels to mixed-use, commercial, multifamily and other designations.
On Nov. 21 the Florence County Council approved multiple zoning and future land-use map amendments related to the East Highway 76 Gateway Study, including ordinances that change unzoned parcels to CMU (Commercial Mixed Use), B3 (General Commercial), R3A (Single-Family Residential) and other designations. The clerk published titles for ordinances 36–45 and related replacements; each motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with no extended public debate.
Staff explained the Gateway 76 package as part of a planning initiative affecting numerous parcels and noted several ordinances were replacements or refinements requested by the county and the planning commission. Council approved second- and third-reading items as presented and deferred certain ordinances where staff recommended a replacement ordinance would supersede an earlier item.
