The Willamina School District superintendent told the board the district is implementing SaferWatch, a geofencing and alerting system for campuses that will let staff trigger location-based alerts and, in larger emergencies, notify law enforcement.
"We're implementing a system called SaferWatch, and, really, school districts across the region are moving to it," the Superintendent said during the report, describing how teachers will be able to trigger an app alert to a named responder if a student runs or to escalate to law enforcement for a major incident. The superintendent said the district expects the system to roll out in the next couple of weeks and emphasized its use primarily for in-house support and incident awareness rather than daily attendance monitoring.
