Commissioner reports new funded navigator roles, peer-support coordinator and crisis-team funding

Commissioner Lacey Trimble told the Orange County Department of Mental Health Community Services Board on Oct. 9 that Orange County will receive funding for two Court-based Mental Health Navigator positions to work in local courts and support people with behavioral-health needs.
Trimble also said the county will budget a full-time coordinator for the First Responder Peer Support Program in next year’s budget and that the Wallkill mobile crisis response team was sustained in the 2025 county budget. She reported an RFP is open for crisis stabilization centers but has attracted few applicants because of staffing requirements and the billing model.
Trimble provided event and program metrics: the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk has raised $33,052 to date toward a $55,000 year-end goal, and the county’s Annual Substance Use Disorder Summit drew 104 attendees. She said the Family Centered Case Management Plan was approved by the state and that Department of Social Services will post Requests for Applications for related contractual positions.
