At the Feb. 4 meeting Jörg Rügemer presented 'Near Distance,' an artwork installed at the security checkpoint exit at Salt Lake City International Airport. Rügemer said the piece, by artists Soonju Kwoon, Reihaneh Noori and Hannah Vaughn, uses textures and materials intended to evoke the landscapes of Utah — he noted substantial time was spent sourcing materials to find the right textures to represent the Great Salt Lake and that visitors can touch the completed work.
The Board decided not to use the 'favorite artwork' slot at the March meeting; instead Jocelyn will present notes and outcomes from the Feb. 21 Public Art Roundtable.
