Silver Creek trustee asks county art board to explore public art for new roundabouts

Jody Anagnos, Office Manager for Silver Creek Service Area 3, asked the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board on Feb. 4 to explore public art opportunities for two recently completed roundabouts by Bell’s gas station and Lush’s BBQ and for improvements at adjacent transit and mail facilities. The trustees see the county‑owned roundabouts as eligible sites and proposed ideas ranging from a mural on the mailhouse to metal artwork on chain‑link fences, shade structures for bicycles and sculptural pieces in the roundabouts.

Anagnos described local character the trustees want reflected in artworks, noting Silver Creek residents are proud of the area’s elk herd and agricultural setting, and said the Trustee Board will gather resident and board feedback to inform budgeting. She told the advisory board that the trustees’ budgeting meetings happen in November and that a new Trustee Board will guide project priorities.

Board members including Jocelyn offered to assist with resident outreach and the administrative steps of an RFP/RFQ, artist selection and implementation. The advisory board said it will coordinate with the Silver Creek Trustee Board and may send a member to a future Trustee meeting to present options and identify funding gaps the county board could help fill. No formal vote was taken; the request will proceed as an outreach and scoping effort.
