Commissioners honor Brandon Kimbrell as Texas State RACES Volunteer of the Year

The court presented Brandon Kimbrell with recognition after he was named Texas State Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) Volunteer of the Year by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Judge Parrish presented Kimbrell a Texas flag that had been flown at the Lubbock County Courthouse on June 17, 2026, honoring the award.
Kimbrell described building the Lubbock County RACES program and the West Texas Pathfinders auxiliary communications group, now more than 200 members, which supports spotter and emergency communications for county emergency management and the National Weather Service. His father, Garland Kimbrell, spoke as well, describing the volunteer effort as a community achievement. Commissioners and staff thanked Kimbrell and applauded the volunteer group’s role in search and rescue, shelter operations and storm spotting.
