City staff opened the meeting with routine announcements about upcoming closures and community events.
Staff said City Hall and the public library will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and that transit will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day. The leaf-drop site at 1084 Country Club Road is open through Dec. 19 for leaves only; contractors and landscape companies are not permitted to dump. The city said the Nov. 24 council meeting has been canceled and the next meeting will be Dec. 8. The mayor outlined holiday events: Love Santa sign-up at the library, a Second Friday event at the Bungalow Theater, and a Dec. 6 tree lighting in the downtown plaza with a sensory Santa session and photo opportunities (register at the number provided). Salem Health community workshops on diabetes and vaping were also announced for mid- and late-November and early December.
These items were presented as announcements and did not require council action at the meeting.
