Court approves multiple surplus declarations and a consignment auction to recoup county funds

The court approved several surplus and consignment actions aimed at recouping value from county-owned items. Commissioner Bianca explained a donated fish aquarium at the Kennedy Library required too much maintenance and moved to declare it surplus for sale; the motion carried. The court also approved a consignment agreement with Alamo Auctioneers to sell acquired vehicles and small items and authorized the county judge to sign the agreement.
Commissioner Bianca reported the county had gathered used cell phones (Samsung, LG, Motorola, ZTE, AT&T and many Apple phones) and asked that working units be sold and nonfunctioning units be disposed of; commissioners voted to approve that action. Tammy reported on the Aug. 5 tax sale earlier in the meeting, saying, “The total amount of money the county received from this was over 24,000.” The court’s actions will return lots to the 2026 tax roll and allow surplus items to be sold at public auction or through the consignment agreement to recover funds for county use.
