City secures Metro and community grants to fund first phase of wetland restoration

He said Metro released local-share funds of about $392,000 after confirming the city's matching application met requirements, bringing grant-plus-city funding for phase 1 to roughly $762,000.
"We got we got this 1 a little earlier this summer and just learned last week, they did release our local share money," Greg said, adding that early engineering estimates for the whole wetland project were about $1,000,000. Staff described phase 1 priorities as plantings, boardwalk repair or replacement, and an updated delineation and archaeological study required for permitting.
Commissioners asked about cultural and educational elements; Greg said the city is coordinating with the Grand Ronde and a Portland organization on native plant selection and interpretive panels, and that some gateway or signage elements likely will wait for later phases.
