Parks staff: splash pad used "just over 750000 gallons" after delayed opening

Greg, a parks staff member, told the Wood Village Parks Commission that non-PlayEast park reservations totaled 81 this summer, the majority for the picnic shelter, with several amphitheater uses and one gazebo reservation. He said the splash pad opened in May but required a brief closure after an anti-skid treatment produced a slippery finish; a replacement batch allowed an extended run through September.
"We used just over 750000 gallons," Greg said when outlining splash-pad water use and operations. He added the pad runs at about 35 gallons per minute and that staff learned to set timers so the pad does not run outside reasonable park hours. The commission noted the amenity drew visitors from neighboring cities and that weekday operation and programming (for example, summer lunch programs) increased usage and wear.
The commission asked staff to continue tracking usage and operational costs; Greg said staff would include the splash pad in weekly updates and reassess run times and maintenance in the off season.
