After returning from executive session, the Cameron County Commissioners Court authorized the county judge to sign a participation agreement in a nationwide remnant-opioid settlement involving six small defendants. County civil legal counsel recommended participation; the anticipated payment to Cameron County is modest and unrestricted, about $26,000, and would be deposited into the county general fund.
County attorneys said the remnant settlement differs from larger opioid agreements the county previously joined and that participation carries no strings beyond the acceptance of funds. Commissioners voted to approve the participation agreement during open session.
