Court approves South Padre Island TIRZ report; funds allocated for parking, lighting and landscaping

County and city staff presented the 2025 South Padre Island tax increment reinvestment zone report in compliance with Chapter 311 of the Texas Tax Code. The presenter said there are 309 accounts in the boundary and reported assessed values and contribution shares.
The city representative said the city contributes at 100% of the maintenance and operations rate and the county contributes at 75% of its M&O rate, which yielded a county contribution of $225,570.68 and a combined contribution of $429,285.94 for the reporting period. Projects this year included median lighting and pilot floodlighting, landscaping, engineering work, and a proposed $345,000 parking lot with electrical upgrades and decorative poles. Commissioners moved to approve the report and the motion carried.
