Commissioners approve tax abatement renewal for Rayos del Sol solar project

The court approved the motion to grant the annual tax abatement for 2026 and authorized the county judge to sign correspondence to the Cameron County Appraisal District. Commissioners noted this is the fifth year of the agreement that originally was approved in 2019 and took effect in 2022. No conflicting claims were raised in open session about compliance documentation.
Why it matters: The decision continues an incentive for a regional solar project that staff said has met its contractual reporting obligations; the practical effect is continuation of the locally authorized tax preference under the existing agreement.
