State health staff report vaccination gains, expanded STD testing and local opioid training

Jessica Wise, public health nurse for the Texas Department of State Health Services in Port Lavaca, presented the Calhoun County 2025 annual report and highlighted several program outcomes. She said vaccine administrations rose (the transcript records an increase reported in the presentation), the office added the ability to test and treat sexually transmitted infections midyear, and staff identified and treated newly reported STDs in coordination with regional disease specialists. "We, in fact, did do that," Wise said of the vaccination target.
DSHS staff described maternal-and-child and mental-health outreach initiatives (including a "mom and soft walk" to promote parental interaction and exercise), parenting classes, food-bank volunteering and car-seat safety work. The report noted 41 families received help, 57 car seats were inspected and 29 seats distributed, and DSHS staff said they provided opioid-abuse training to the school district and to two Walmart trainings. Staff invited the court to a grand-opening of their new office location and requested feedback to improve future reports.
