HOA leader urges Calhoun County to pause Synergy Point Comfort solar construction for independent review

Chip Doreen, who identified himself as president of his homeowners association, asked Calhoun County to immediately suspend construction activities tied to the Synergy Point Comfort Solar Project at 24135 State Highway 172 until a comprehensive, independent review of the project and permitting process can be completed. "Associates of Calhoun County deserve confidence that flame risk have been evaluated," he told the court, and he asked that drainage impacts, wetlands considerations and county permitting requirements be reassessed.
Doreen said proposed sites for large solar installations include cultivated farmland and wetlands in unincorporated areas and argued the county should adopt guardrails such as setback lines, limits on maximum project size and other regulations used by other communities. He asked the court to "slow down" and consider long-term land-use implications before approving industrial-scale projects in rural residential areas.
