Matthew Tantillo, Public Defender, presented his office’s report, which the committee accepted as information. Tantillo said a full-time assistant public defender position that was approved in October was filled (Clayton Gandino) after a delay in receiving a budget modification from ILS; Gandino will handle substantial portions of the local court caseload and provide coverage while Lindsey is out.
Chair Edward Bronson asked for a briefing at the next meeting on the process by which cases move from the Public Defender's office to the Assigned Counsel Program so the committee can better understand caseload distribution and timing.
