Committee secures funding for three display cases for "Archaeology in Orange County" exhibit

The Dutchess Quarry Sites National Register District Management Committee approved moving funds to purchase three museum display cases for a new exhibit on Sept. 24. Johanna Porr said she secured funds from the County Historian budget to hire consultant Matthew Kierstead of Milestone Heritage Consulting to produce a feasibility study and floor plan and to contact institutions such as Museum Village, the Archaeological Society and the New York State Museum to arrange loans or licenses for artifacts.
Budget Director Deborah Slesinski told the committee the cases cost $2,500 each. One case will be paid from the Historians Office and two from the Legislature; because they are fixed assets they need to be transferred into an equipment line. Slesinski said the transfer should be completed by the end of the week and Porr said the cases will take a couple of months to arrive. Chairman Leigh J. Benton said an advisory should be sent to the Physical Services Committee for a formal vote when appropriate.
