County planning department adds two staff, new assistant planning director introduces himself

The Dinwiddie County Planning Department announced two new planning hires during the Aug. 14 meeting and introduced Matthew Colbrecht as a new assistant planning director.
Planning staff said the department added a Planner I (Haley Keane) and Matthew Colbrecht, who comes from the City of Emporia where he served as planning director for more than three years. Colbrecht introduced himself to the commission, said he is a Dinwiddie County resident with family ties to the county school system and described his prior experience in small‑staff planning offices. "I'm very excited to be here," Colbrecht said, adding that he jumped at the opportunity to serve the community he grew up in.
Commissioners welcomed the new staff. The hires were announced as part of routine staff updates; Colbrecht’s local background and prior grant experience were highlighted.
