Commission backs Williams family rezoning to preserve family land

The commission recommended approval Sept. 11 of rezoning case P‑24‑13, which would change the subject parcel from R‑1 (Residential Limited) to A2 (Agricultural General). Planning staff explained the parcel and surrounding land uses and said the A2 classification is consistent with county zoning and the Northern Dinwiddie Development Area on the comprehensive plan.
Applicant Gordon Williams described multi‑generational family ownership and asked the commission to allow the parcel to remain in family hands for a future dwelling: "This parcel of land has been in my family as long as I've known... I'm looking to pass it down to my cousin and her fiancé for them to raise their family on," Williams said. A public speaker, Chris Aldridge, also spoke in support. The commission moved and seconded a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors; the motion passed by roll call 6‑0 and will be transmitted for a Board public hearing.
