Kendall County lifts burn ban after recent precipitation

The Kendall County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Jan. 27 to lift the countywide burn ban after emergency management staff reported measurable precipitation across the county.
Brady, the county’s emergency management official, told the court that rainfall over the past days dropped the county’s burn index “to 491, so it is under that threshold,” and recommended removing the ban while cautioning the court that weather shifts could create red-flag days in coming weeks. The court adopted the recommendation and removed the burn ban “until further notice,” the judge said after the unanimous vote.
Brady urged residents to be careful about what they burn, noting the burn guidance is primarily for natural vegetation and warning that “if there’s any question on something, if it has to do with livestock carcasses and stuff, just give me a call and I can educate.” He also encouraged people to call the non‑emergency burning dispatch to provide their burn plan and timing.
The court directed staff to update the county website and send a notification through county alert channels with a caution that the lifted ban could be of short duration. The judge also noted that the burn-ban checklist used by the county marshal has been signed to document the change.
