Commissioners approve feral hog grant application; county to continue contracted abatement

Another county speaker said the county budgets for contracting this work and that the contractor has removed 60 hogs to date.
After questions were satisfied, the judge moved for approval of the grant application and a second was recorded. The court approved the item by voice vote; the judge announced the motion carried, 4 to 0.
The action will allow the county to pursue state grant funding that the county says offsets previously budgeted local funds for feral hog abatement and supports continued use of contracted services to place traps, monitor baiting and dispose of captured animals. The county did not specify exact implementation dates or the amount it will request if awarded (the transcript records the grant award range but not the county's requested amount).
