Steven Salcedo, a partner with Linebarger Attorneys at Law, presented a new SMS outreach tool the firm will run for San Patricio County to increase delinquent tax collections. "We're now going to start to do texting campaigns in order to try to generate more delinquent tax collection revenue for you guys," Salcedo said, describing the messages as high-quality SMS that will link recipients to county web pages verifying legitimacy.
Salcedo said the campaign will supplement the eight delinquent mailings the county already sends and noted the texts have been implemented in Victoria, Nueces and DeWitt counties. He added the program will send messages for very small delinquencies: "Now, if they even owe 1p, they're going to get a delinquent tax from our law firm, to try to get them in there to settle the account." County officials asked about public outreach and Salcedo said a public service announcement will be posted on the tax assessor-collector’s web page and directed recipients to the county website if they wish to verify a text. Commissioners did not object and the court moved on without further questions.
