The court approved a resolution authorizing Kaufman County to participate in a state homeland security grant program to fund replacement of end-of-life equipment in the county emergency operations center (EOC) trailer. Emergency-management staff described the grant as a competitive, regionally administered program developed by the emergency managers working group.
Steve, the presenting emergency-management representative, told the court: "If we get what we got last year, we would get 15,000. If it goes down, we get nothing. If it goes up, we get 37,500." Commissioners approved the resolution by motion and voice vote and noted that the grant would help avoid using local taxpayer funds for the equipment replacement.
