Kaufman County wins state-funded flood study from Texas Water Development Board

County staff reported that Kaufman County qualified for a state-funded flood study through the Texas Water Development Board after earlier grant work put the county on the agency's radar. "The Texas Water Development Board is going to perform a study on the areas, a deeper study than we could do, for free for us, and we'll get that data," one staff member said, noting the county previously secured a $280,000 FIF grant and had submitted six critical areas for review.
Staff explained the state-conducted study will produce more detailed hydraulics and drainage information that could help the county pursue additional grants or mitigation projects; based on typical study costs, staff said the grant would probably cover two areas ("based on the amount of the grant, which is, like, 250,000 ... it would just do 2 areas probably"). Commissioners approved submitting the county's request for evaluation and were told TWDB will notify the county of the study's start date and coordinate on which locations to examine.
