Chinatown and Koreatown small businesses seek safety and façade upgrades under approved grants

Several business owners told the Clark County Redevelopment Agency that the Spring Mountain Corridor grants would address break-ins, lighting gaps and storefront deterioration that hurt customers and workers.
Michael Lee, owner of Pallet Tea Lounge, testified in support of agenda item 4 and said his project includes façade enhancements, public art and safety/circulation upgrades. "Our project brings a comprehensive improvement plan to the table," Michael Lee said, adding that his application sought a $65,000 grant matched by private capital.
Tristan, owner-operator of BBR Cafe at Koreatown Plaza, described a past break-in and urged the board to fund lighting and security changes; Tristan said the plaza sees "more than 477,000 people" per year. Staff recommended a range of awards tailored to each property's needs — for Pallet Tea Lounge staff recommended $66,000 to support site lighting and cultural elements and multiple plazas were recommended awards up to the $75,000 cap.
The RDA approved the recommended slate and authorized staff to execute grant agreements so work can begin under the program's timing requirements.
