Board unanimously adopts local law banning camouflaged vaping devices

The measure was moved by the committee on legislation and health and advanced by Legislator Williams Johnson, chair of the Board's Health Committee, who described the local law as a step toward protecting children from deceptive nicotine products.
Molly Franco of the American Lung Association and Power Against Tobacco testified in a public hearing in support, saying the county has more than 900 tobacco retailers and that devices that resemble school supplies or toys make detection by adults difficult. Legislator Williams Johnson said the Board must "choose prevention over complacency" and that additional vape-related measures remain under consideration. The Board's roll-call vote recorded 14 ayes and zero nays or abstentions. The law was moved in final form after clerical corrections were noted by legal counsel; lawmakers said enforcement and continued policy work will follow.
