At the end of its Oct. 9 meeting the Dinwiddie County Planning Commission agreed to a joint workshop with the Board of Supervisors in November to review several policy topics, including a draft short‑term rentals ordinance and possible zoning for data centers and other emerging technology uses.
Staff (speaker 6) said the short‑term rentals draft addresses manner‑of‑operation and permitting—not placement in specific zoning districts—and noted code‑compliance actions have occurred where short‑term rentals were not authorized. The commission agreed to a joint workshop with the Board on the meeting date in November and staff said the draft ordinance and additional materials would be distributed in advance.
On data centers, staff presented two approaches: allow data centers as a use in specific industrial zoning districts, or create overlay districts where such uses would be permitted under additional standards. Commissioner (speaker 8) asked for a map showing electric transmission lines and areas with sufficient capacity; staff said such a map exists and will be provided prior to the workshop.
