VDOT plans five‑day closure of Route 703 bridge with signed detour starting Nov. 10

Aaron, a Virginia Department of Transportation representative, told the Board of Supervisors that work on the final phase of the Route 703 bridge will require a full closure and signed detour. "This will be a 5 day closure beginning on November 10," he said, and added the detour will route traffic down to the courthouse and back on Route 660.
Aaron also updated supervisors on two bridge replacement projects on routes 611 (Wilkinson) and 624 (Coleman's Lake Road), saying construction should start in early 2028 after design and advertisement work now under way. He noted other near‑term items: public comment periods for truck restrictions on Halifax and Sterling roads are closing soon and crews completed the county mowing cycle and replaced a washed‑out 48‑inch pipe on Zales Road after Hurricane Helene.
Board members asked about school‑time turning lanes and shoulder stabilization where VDOT scraping left dropoffs; Aaron said traffic engineering would review the Dinwiddie Elementary area and that crews can return to fill shoulders where safe. "I'll take a look at it," he told supervisors. He said staff will post signs and issue media advisories ahead of the 703 closure.
