City staff presented a reimagined spring event for April 19 called the "Easter extravaganza," shifting from timed egg hunts to a family-friendly festival with multiple activities and business engagement.
"This is 11 to 2," staff (Speaker 4) said when describing the new schedule designed to allow families to "explore your own adventure." The program includes a story walk with Spanish translation, a business-linked scavenger hunt to encourage visits to local retailers, photo areas, a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, a sensory room for children who need calmer space, and free refreshments. Staff reported outreach to more than 50 organizations with 14 confirmations so far and noted potential parking-management costs of about $1,000 for professional flaggers.
Councilors generally supported the rebrand while emphasizing strong advance messaging so residents understand the format change from the traditional egg hunt. Staff will proceed with outreach to local businesses, finalize vendor participation, and prepare communications explaining the new event format.
