PlayEast reports rebound in registrations, scholarship and meal programs

PlayEast staff presented an annual report showing program growth and community services. The presentation noted a bounce-back in registrations after a prior dip, increased program revenue and continued investment in scholarships and summer meals.
"Last year was one of our best years in regards to registration... we had a 31% increase from the previous year," the PlayEast program manager reported to the council and said the organization awarded 178 scholarships worth a little more than $10,500. Staff also said PlayEast served nearly 1,000 meals through its summer-meal program across five weeks, partnering with the Reynolds School District for four of those weeks.
Staff described plans for spring and summer programming (50 programs for spring, 40 summer camps) and a fundraiser slated for May 15 to help meet revenue needs; they said the city’s funding is important but not the only support. Councilors asked how adults could access summer meals (staff said Wood Village is one Reynolds site that allows adults to participate) and suggested outreach via newsletters and on-site surveys to get resident preferences for future food programs.
Staff asked councilors for input and support for outreach and agreed to provide donation links and QR codes for the May fundraiser.
