Ellis County Commissioners Authorize Rebids for Road Materials Ahead of Contract Expirations

The county’s purchasing director, EJ Harbin, told commissioners that several materials contracts (for crushed limestone aggregates, asphalt and roadway emulsions, crushed concrete and rip rap, and pea gravel) are scheduled to expire between November and January. Purchasing requested and received authorization to begin preparing specifications and to advertise solicitations now so that new contracts will be in place when current agreements expire.
Harbin noted the approach will help the county obtain pricing and provide quoted prices for small purchases (under $100,000) if specific suppliers are not responsive, and that the procurement team will coordinate with other cooperatives and local counties to ensure supply continuity. Commissioners approved motions to proceed on each of the listed materials bid packages unanimously.
