Deputy Jessie Volker told the council she helps run an East County holiday toy drive that supported 263 families and served 885 children last year and invited Wood Village to participate in collection and a wrapping-paper-and-tape drive.
"We supported 263 East County families. We served 885 kids with toys and stockings, and we wrapped all of those toys," Volker said, asking staff to circulate volunteer opportunities and collection dates. She said collection will take place at area retailers and volunteers will wrap gifts at Wood Village Baptist Church on the distribution day; the drive aims to prioritize East County residents rather than regional drop-offs.
Councilors thanked the deputy and said staff would follow up to ensure volunteers and dates are posted on the city website and flyers. No formal action was taken.
