The Ellis County Commissioners Court appointed the county judge and Commissioner Ponder as the county’s designated representatives to meet with city partners (including Waxahachie, Midlothian and Ennis) and stakeholders to explore a regional animal shelter.
Judge Ray said the representatives will solicit information from cities and stakeholders, that negotiated outlines would be returned to governing bodies for formal approval, and that a citizens’ committee and rescue experts would likely be involved in planning. Commissioner Butler moved the appointment and Commissioner Stinson seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners said the committee will neither take binding actions for the county nor bypass the formal approval process; any interlocal agreements or funding commitments would return to commissioners and city councils for votes.
