Ellis County proclaims 250th anniversary and unveils commemorative bench

The Ellis County Commissioners Court opened its July 13 meeting by reading a proclamation recognizing the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and encouraging county residents to mark the milestone through acts of service and civic engagement. “Now, therefore, be it proclaimed that the Ellis County Commissioners Court hereby recognizes and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States of America,” the proclamation stated, as read aloud by the County Judge.
The court also recognized the donation and recent installation of a natural stone commemorative bench on the courthouse lawn by the Ellis County Chapter 70 of the Sons of the American Revolution. David Hill, introduced by the judge as a former mayor of Waxahachie, read remarks about the bench dedication and said it should “serve as a quiet witness to remembrance, reflection, and renewal for generations to come.” Judge Ray thanked the SAR chapter and the Historical Commission for supporting the project. The court applauded and moved on to the next agenda item.
