She also reported the counts for juveniles who have been direct filed: “For juveniles that have been direct filed, we have 1 male at Montgomery, 2 males at Abraxas, 1 at George Junior, 1 at Jefferson, and 4 in our local jail.” Board members asked follow-up questions to confirm totals for Montgomery County and to clarify that the juvenile at Jefferson is placed on an Ohio placement; DeMateo confirmed those points.
Members pressed about bed availability and whether the county plans to move juveniles as spaces open; DeMateo said there are no locally available beds at times and that borrowing beds for direct-file cases is not typical unless immediate arrangements are required.
