District reports slight enrollment bump and expands virtual learning (Bobcat Den)

The Union School District 5 superintendent told the board the district is seeing modest enrollment growth and highlighted the Bobcat Den virtual-learning program as a flexible option for students.
"Right now, we have 22 students that are taking one class, but they take it inside the Bobcat Den," the superintendent (S1) said, describing a staffed space where students log into online classes for credit recovery or courses the district does not offer on campus. The superintendent added the district has an adult supervising the Den and that it creates scheduling flexibility for students.
Superintendent S1 also reported the high school is up 12 students from this point last year and the district overall is up about six students; he described early-year diagnostics (STAR and DIBELS) and supports for teachers to improve instructional culture. Board members praised the program and asked staff to continue reporting enrollment and assessment results at future meetings.
