Engineers presented a package of proposed improvements to Hammond Marina that would add two covered fish/crab cleaning stations, an ADA fishing pier on the east jetty, a hardened walking path with ADA approaches, widened Bridal Street and two accessible restrooms.
John Forrester outlined the elements and gave budgetary examples: the two covered fish-cleaning stations were listed at about $300,000 each (Forrester also referenced a larger combined figure in the presentation materials), and the east-jetty pier was shown with a budgetary estimate of approximately $2,000,000 (site and geotechnical work excluded). He cautioned that these are budgetary estimates that do not include engineering, permitting, contingency or long-term maintenance.
Commissioners raised operational concerns about showers, campground maintenance and nighttime security; staff suggested options such as a camp host, timed locks or adding maintenance costs to dry-camping fees. The commission directed staff and the Marine Advisory Board to review locations, phasing and long-term upkeep before advancing grant applications or formal CIP requests.
